What are Care & Content Labels and Why do I Need Them?

Adding care labels to your items is an industry-standard in most places around the world. Understand what goes into a custom care label and why they are so important in the clothing industry.

Garment care labels, often known as care & content or laundry labels, are tags that are usually sewn into an item of clothing or soft furnishing to help the user care for those items correctly. They offer assurances to the customer that the items will maintain shape, fit and color after washing, so it’s important to get them right. Both fiber content and care labeling is a legal requirement when selling clothing in many countries, which elevates the significance of these custom care labels for clothing.

At a minimum, the label or tag should have the fiber content and washing instructions specific to the particular item it is attached to. However, you can include other information such as brand name, the origin of production, and sizing information as well.

Laundering instructions may be shown using words, symbols, or a combination of both. It is a good idea to include different languages if you are selling to an international market.

What Is A Care Label?

A care label provides essential information on how to properly wash, dry, and care for a garment. It includes symbols and instructions to maintain the fabric's quality and longevity. Proper adherence ensures the garment remains in good condition, preventing damage and extending its lifespan.
