Make Your Own DIY Wallet & Card Holder

These tiny wallets can be used for a variety of things including, holding business cards, money/pocket change to credit cards! A great thing about DIY is that you can customize your creation however you like! From fabrics to size to accessories, the possibilities are endless! Keep reading to learn how to make your own custom creation!

First thing first: gather your supplies.

DIY Wallet and Card Holder Supplies: 

  • 4.5 x 7” Fabric of your choice [I’m using 100% cotton and fusible fleece]
  • Sewing Machine (ideally, but a simple needle and thread will work, too)
  • Sewing pins or clips 
  • Scissors
  • Snap press buttons and tools 
  • Personalized labels from Dutch Label Shop

Step 1

Cut the fabric using the provided template, iron the fusible interfacing to the lining piece for added support, and clip the right sides together. The dimensions I give are from the template but feel free to cut larger or smaller pieces of fabric based on how big or small you want the final product to be.

Step 2

Top-stitch around the outside of the card holder/wallet using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave a seam gap along the small straight edge for turning. Clip the corners and edges.

Step 3

Turn right side out using the seam gap and a pointed object to help turn out the corners and edges.

Step 4

Fold the seam gap raw edges in to enclose the gap in the lining and clip the perimeter of the card holder/wallet. Top-stitch around the entire perimeter.

Step 5

Fold the flat edge up approx 3 inches as shown. Clip the sides together and stitch down the right and up the left side.

Step 6

Apply the snap button using a snap press or snap tool. Snap button or press button kits can easily be found online, be sure to follow the provided instructions in your kit. If you don’t have or don’t want to use a snap button, you could try adding a simple button or even velcro.

Step 7

Find the perfect location for your DLS label and iron into place. Feel free to give the entire card holder/wallet a press while you’re at it!
