Attaching Care Labels to Your Products

Keep care labels securely attached wash-after-wash so customers can always rely on them. Find out where the best spot to attach your care labels is.

Care labels are designed to stay attached to the garment so they can easily be referred to when laundering. They should be placed somewhere discreet that does not interfere with the overall look or function of the item so that a wearer is less likely to remove the label.

Where Should the Care Label Be Attached?

A care label should always be attached on the inside of the garment or product so as not to disrupt its function or overall appearance. The ideal place for a care label is in the side seam of a garment (this is where you will find a majority of care labels in store-bought items). If a side seam is not available, then a back seam or waistband is the next best option. If an item is fully reversible the care label can be placed inside a pocket or in another discreet spot.

How to Securely Attach Care Labels

Care labels are usually sewn into a garment either while it is being made or once it’s done. The edge of the care label can often slot perfectly into a side seam at the waist, or just below the hip then sewn as normal. Attaching a care label with a sewing machine or hand stitching ensures the label will stay securely attached to the garment for a long time. Care labels for clothing can also be attached using an overlocker if that's how you are finishing your seams. Just make sure it is facing the right direction so it doesn't get cut off with the overlocker blade!
