What Is A Woven Patch?

Assorted Woven Patches with different edges

Woven patches, also known as woven badges or clothing patches, are decorative patches used on clothing, hats, bags, and more. What makes a woven patch different from a woven label is that the design is woven onto a paper backing, making it much sturdier and more suitable to be attached onto the outside of items, perfect for adding visible branding and graphics.

Just like our woven labels, they are made by weaving fine threads together to form your design, giving them a unique textural appearance. Woven patches are known for their high level of detail, sharp colors, and durability. Each patch can be produced in various shapes, sizes, colors, and edge finishings, making them highly customizable and perfect for a wide variety of applications. If you're looking for an alternative way to showcase your brand identity, explore our collection of custom logo tags. These tags offer a distinct and eye-catching way to represent your brand through personalized logos.

Woven Patch Edge Finishes

 Woven Patches with Merrow Edge

When designing your woven patches you can choose between two edge finishes; a merrow edge or laser cut edge. Merrow edges are the go-to choice for vintage-style woven patches. They have a raised, stitched border around the outer edge of your patch and will give any patch a classic, timeless appearance while providing extra strength and durability. On the other hand, laser-cut edges offer a flatter, sealed edge finish. They are ideal for complex and highly detailed shapes and give your custom patches more of a seamless flow between them and the garment.

Woven Patches vs. Embroidered Patches

While most are more familiar with embroidered patches, woven patches are similar in both style and how you can apply them to your items, with just a few differing details. Embroidered patches involve stitching a design onto an existing fabric base, whereas woven patches are created by weaving the entire patch from scratch to match the design. This weaving process uses finer threads and less layering than embroidery, resulting in a smoother finish that captures intricate details effectively.

Though both options offer an eye-catching way to adorn garments and textiles, woven patches stand out as softer, less bulky, and are adept at capturing even the minutest details, making them our top choice for any application.
