Daylight savings time in the spring is always a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, we lose an hour of sleep. On the other, we gain an hour of daylight in our waking hours! The way we see it, though, that extra hour at the end of the day is an opportunity! So we have put together a list of some our favorite spring sewing projects that can be completed in one hour. Of course this list could be endless, so comment below and let us know YOUR favorite 1-hour daylightsewingtime projects!

  • Patterned tote bag
  • Decorative pillows: To liven up the room during your spring cleaning process
  • Brightly colored pajama bottoms: If you’re lucky enough to live in a place where it is getting too warm for sweatpants!
  • Small quilted or machine embroidered wall hanging
  • Fabric ornaments: It’s never too early to start preparing for the holidays…
  • Simple stuffed animal: These make the perfect addition to a child’s easter basket!
  • Machine stitched applique (pre cut): To add a touch of spring to a bag, blanket, or jacket.
  • Embroidered felt keychain
  • Monogram something!: Towel, bathrobe, slippers – anything that will sit still long enough.
  • Bottle koozie or mug “sweater”: For that extra hour relaxing outside on the porch after work or school.
  • Covered hardback book: some pretty fabric and ribbon can turn a hardback book into a treasured tome.
  • Pretty pin cushion: Ever-useful, great for gifts, and the perfect way to use up some of those scraps in your fabric drawer (use sand if you can’t get your hands on any sawdust).
  • Quilted potholders, coasters, and placemats
  • Simple nightgown
  • Padded glasses case or laptop case
  • Headband or scarf: I love to add sequins, buttons, piping, or silk flowers to mine to give them a little flair.
  • Neck pillow: An especially useful travel item if you are planning a spring break trip somewhere!
  • Hand warmers or bed warmers: For those of us not lucky enough to enjoy warmer temperatures quite yet.
  • Sweet sachet: Any fragrant blossoms or herbs coming up in the garden yet? Dry them and put them in pretty cloth bags to softly scent your drawers and closets. Another great gift idea.
  • Gloves or mittens: A great way to re-purpose a cozy sweater from this winter season
